Let's celebrate vegan hygiene together
On November 1st, World Vegan Day is celebrated all over the world to celebrate the birth in 1944, in the United Kingdom, of the first association in history, the Vegan Society, and the birth of the term “vegan” itself.
As November is the Vegan Month : an entire month dedicated to raising awareness about this choice and animal rights.
Veganism is often thought of as a dietary choice that aims to exclude not only all products of animal origin, such as meat and fish, but also all products that derive from the exploitation of other living beings.
But if the food choice is perhaps the most discussed, in reality being vegan is a life choice , often strongly ethics , which goes beyond the plant-based diet and involves everything: what we wear, the cosmetics we choose, the products we use to wash ourselves and clean the house, all consumption, which is aimed at eliminating any impact on animals and their well-being.
A growing trend
Attention to animal rights and, by extension, to the issue of the environment and climate change – because everything is connected – is a growing trend: according to the latest data Eurispes (May 2022) 6.7% of the Italian population declares itself vegetarian or vegan (vegans are 1.3% against 0.6% in 2014) and it is enough to notice the boom of plant-based alternatives to products of animal origin on supermarket shelves, to understand that this is a choice that is consolidating on multiple levels and cannot be dismissed as a passing fad.
Hope then lies in the young people! The vegan choice is in fact very widespread among young people , among Millennials and the very young of Gen Z: in Italy 4.8% of the population between 18 and 24 years old declare themselves vegan.
Vegan Certification
Considering the 360° impact of the choice, here is that, for those who decide to be vegan, orienting oneself in consumption is not always so simple : certainly it is a matter of carefully reading the labels that accompany the products, both food and non-food, but often one comes across unknown ingredients or components and misleading slogans or symbols.
In the absence of a single European regulation, loudly requested by consumers, help comes from some large animal rights associations, as well as associations that own brands and associations that issue vegan certifications.
Through these certifications we want to attest that NO substance of animal origin is used in the entire manufacturing process of a product (and this also applies to individual ingredients, adjuvants and manufacturing aids) and that no animals have been involved in the production, preparation or placing on the market phases.
